Week Four Report

Spartan Superway Wheelchair Restraint Senior Project

Project Work

·       This week’s work mainly focused on the design of the mechanism for our project.
·       4 sketches were made which helped to get basic design and parameters of the design.

·       The box needs to be designed and find everything that will go in there (gears, sensors, hydraulics etc.).
Figure 1. First sketch of the design with comments.

Figure 2. Second sketch of the design with comments.

Figure 3. Additional sketch regarding the 2nd sketch.

Contact Information
Rahul Batra a friend of mine that works for VTA as a driver. He could be a useful resource for feedback or comments about the traditional restraint system. I have him as a social media friend so will contact him through there.

Library and patent searches
·       Non-Newtonian fluids. What are they and how are they useful? These fluids can be used as the material for one part of our design. Flow of forces occur throughout the inside of the transportation mode anytime there is an accident. This material could be useful to stop movement. Non-Newtonian fluids act as solids when hit with fast force and as liquid when hit with slow force.
·       This page was useful to get measurements of the wheelchair with user is on it to help us with the parameter of our project. Additionally, this page helped me to get rough dimensions of our design using figure 5.
